Ok so i have a Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop with windows 7 64 bit, and it crashed a few weeks ago. I was told to fix it I would need to order the recovery disks from best2serve so i did that and they arrived yesterday. Although earlier i tried to recover the laptop and the disks wont work, I sorted out the BIOS so that the cd drive loads first and all that happens is a small comand prompt window flashes up then a gray screen appears with a ribbon graphic on it with no options for me too choose, and it stays on this screen forever.
Can anybody help me out?
Thanks, Kris ![]()

Hi Kris,
Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu. Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive. Run this test and post back with your results.
Best wishes,

Adding to what DavidPK suggested, also test the memory.

Hi,
An example of the type of Hard Drive you will need to purchase is on the link below. If you post back with your full Model No. this could be narrowed down.
On the following link is a video showing how to install a new Hard Drive in a HP Laptop - it really is quite straight forward.

Hope this helps and if you have any further questions, please post back.
All the best,
DP-K

Hi,
The drive on the link below should be compatible with your notebook and will offer a bit more storage. You may well be able to install a drive with larger capacity, but this should be a safe choice.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
