Hi,
I'm having problems with the Windows XP installation on a Pavilion DV2-1050eg. The Windows XP Setup starts in textmode and copies files to the harddisk, but then fails to boot from the internal hard disk. I have slipstreamed the Windows XP SP2 installation with the AMD SATA AHCI driver from HP (ahcix86.sys).
It says:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
I can also boot the Windows XP SP2 installation a second time from my USB stick and enter the Win XP graphic setup, but still, after copying another bunch of files it can't boot from the internal harddisk.
I tried two ways of slipstreaming the Windows XP SP2 Installation with the SATA driver:
1. http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/preparati
Both yield the same result. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

@pinedignob
Hi,
You need to slipstream Sata drivers (only x86 drivers) from here with nLite.
Here You will find doc file with guide how to slipstream this Sata driver with WinXP. (You will need Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it.)
Here You will find pdf file with the same guide. (You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open it.).
Be sure that You are using at least WinXP with Service Pack 2. If you have XP without any Service Pack (SP) or with only Service Pack 1 (SP1) then you may download Service Pack 2 (SP2) from here. Instructions how to slipstream this file with Your XP copy You will find in this guide.
nLite will give You possibility to burn Your new XP CD/DVD with all changes which You made here.

Hi, I am trying to downgrade my Pavilion dv2 1014au to Windows XP. I managed to make the sound card and network card working with the help of the HP forum. However, even after I following the instructions here, I still cannot get the video card working.
Slipstreaming SATA driver process didn't give me any error.
I tried to update SP2 to SP3 as well, but the same problem persist. I was notified that the new VGA device is found every time I start my laptop.
I haven't updated the BIOS, is that mandatory? I cannot find the update BIOS program from HP website.
What else can be wrong?
Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
Thank you very much! It solved my video driver problem.
Now my audio, video, wireless, HP webcam are working. In device manager, I can still see two problems:
1. Ethernet driver is missing.
2. One unknown device.
Do you have other pointers that can resolve these two problems?

Hi again,
Go to:
Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Devices Manager
Click with right button of your mouse on each yellow sign with exclamation mark (
) and choose properties. Then go to ' Details ' tab and paste here Hardware Ids . This way we will know kind of device it is.
Below You've got example how to do it:
