I have a DV7-1175nr. I just had a hard drive failure and had to replace my hard drive. Since I could not recover the W_Vista from the old HDD I loaded a new W7 operating system. I have reloaded the HP drivers from HP website and am still trying to find a way to get the CyberDVD suite back without having to purchase, but my Optiarc BD-5500 only has a CD-ROM driver loaded and I cannot find how to make this thing remember what it is. Any suggestions and solutions would be appreciated.

Hi,
Unless you have done so already, download and install the Chipset driver on the link below.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp4164
After the installation has completed, restart the notebook.
If you need a blu ray software player, the latest HP version of Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 is available on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp5690

Already downloaded the chipset, but I tried it again to be sure it installed correctly. This didn't work. Also, the Cyberlink software would not install correctly, but I am trying again. The drive doesn't recognize BD but does recognize the disc.

Hi,
Try the following.
Click the Start Menu, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, open up DVD/CD-ROM Drives, right click the drive and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked.
Shut down the notebook. Follow the procedure starting on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the optical drive.
Start the notebook and let Windows fully load. From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'. In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Shut down the notebook and then reinstall the optical drive.
Boot into Windows and you should hopefully see the drive being reinstalled - check how the drive is described in Device Manager now.
Regards,
DP-K

Okay, so I got bold and did what you said. I unistalled the driver but did not delete (it did not ask me that question). I shut down and then removed the drive, restarted, ran the system file checker, shutdown , reinstalled the drive, and then restarted. It has now been "searching the preconfigured drivers..." for the past fifteen minutes or so. Apparently it doesn't have the driver it is looking for, so what is my next step or alternative?

Hi,
Try following the procedure under the sub-heading 'Let me fix it myself' on the link below to remove the Upper and Lower filters ( you may find only one, or possibly neither, of these keys are present ). Restart the notebook and see if this helps the issue.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
If the drive still doesn't install, click the Start Menu, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, open up DVD/CD-ROM Drives, right click the drive and select Properties. Click the Driver tab and see if there is an error code displayed in the Device status box - if there is, what's the code?
