Hello everybody,
If someone here could help me I'd be very grateful.
I have a pavillion 6258se which is thoroughly enjoying watching me squirm as I attempt to fix it's stupid wireless.
A few months ago I downloaded something. After this something downloaded, my sound and wireless drivers were gone. I managed to restore and get my sound driver back, but wireless was a no-go. The orange/blue indicator light remains orange, and wireless can not be enabled nor disabled.
Yesterday, I finally got off my lazy butt and connected my laptop to a cable connection and downloaded the most recent HP Wireless Assistant from this website. Lo and behold, it worked! But after shutting down last night and turning it back on this morning, I'm back at the start with no wireless.
It's really becoming frustrating.
I also had the old "battery plugged in,not charging" bit yesterday, but after removing and reinserting the battery it seems that all is well.
If someone could provide me with advice for a PERMANENT solution... that'd be wonderful. I refuse to take this laptop to geek squad because they had it for two weeks once and never even opened it. Other than that we only have the little locally owned repair shops that try and rip you off...
Anyway, thank you in advance.

Too bad Geek Squad knows nothing about the laptops they sell. Your model is listed on the 'known hardware failures' list and qualifies for free repair.

In the meantime while you wade through how/if to get service under Warranty Enhancement, you might try getting the latest BIOS which addresses some of the hardware failures.Next get the latest Broadcom Wireless driver.Shutdown completely for a few minutes after updating wireless driver, then restart to see if any changes.Good luck!

Thank you, CherylG! That was extremely helpful, and I cannot believe that I wasn't informed of this sooner. Initially I bought this laptop and it presented me with the BSOD everytime it was turned on. Geek Squad had it for two weeks and insisted nothing was wrong with it until I proved them otherwise and demanded a new laptop. I wish I had gotten a different model, now!!
Since then, this laptop's webcam doesn't work all of the time, the sound driver will go, there is a strange USB port issue going on, and now the **bleep** wireless.
I have no idea what a BIOS is, but you're saying I should go ahead and fix all of that up before I send my laptop to HP?
I'm not sure how comfortable I am with shipping my $1,300 laptop to a factory to be fixed. Ummm.....
Oh well!

There isn't any need to do the updates to BIOS and wireless if you prefer to just send it in. It is probably too late for the new BIOS to prevent damage since you are experiencing all those other problems too.
"Sometimes" the new BIOS and Broadcom driver helps with the wireless problem. Both are in the last link I posted above to your models driver page.

Thank you again CherylG.
After clicking around on that link you gave me I fonud a note where it recommended to not update the BIOS if experiencing the symptoms.
After a 40 minute phone call this morning, HP is sending a fedex box delivered to me within the next two days to use to ship it off to them. Of course NOW though I am sitting in my living room on my laptop as if nothing were wrong. Hopefully it will act up again soon.

jtb1100:
Glad my awful situation was of some help to you!
I shipped off my laptop on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was returned to me in perfect condition Friday morning. I couldn't believe the fast service. I backed up all of my files just to be safe, but they didn't have to reformat or anything. They fixed it and sent it back, free of charge, even the shipping.
I now have a wonderful laptop with no funny USB problems, webcam issues, sound driver disappearances, or wireless disabling. It runs as well as the first day I got it.
I hope this is the solution they provide to you!
