Hi There. I too have a Hp Pavilion DV6-1030US and was wanting to downgrade to windows Xp. I did all the things asked, like slipstreaming the sata drivers into the windows Xp SP 2 cd and all went well with booting, formatting and loading the Xp files onto the HD. and then after this is done and the system tries to reboot, it shows a error stating ' ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM" on start up. Someone pls help with this error. This vista is really very boring and frustrating to work on.
thanks.

@Mendes,
According to this document from microsoft You must update Your Bios.
First go to Bios by pressing F10 on boot. Then run from Diagnostics menu:
- Hard Disk Self Test Run a comprehensive self-test on the hard drive.
- Secondary Hard Disk Self Test (select models only) Run a comprehensive self-test on a secondary hard drive.
If with Your HDD's everything is ok. Next step.
You must install Vista again from Your backup cd/dvd which You made and after that update Your Bios from here (I'm sorry but it can be only done in Vista system). Reinstall XP again.

Once you have XP running well with all drivers installed, make an Image of hdd_to easily be able to reinstall later if needed, no more driver searches.I have been using Macrium lately and it is very good. Will backup to external USB hdd, DVD, network drive,etc. It also creates a bootable cd to boot from and restore your entire OS in the event of problems.
Macrium Reflect Disk Imaging:
