After much frustration and lack of sleep trying to downgrade (i.e. improve performance) from Vista to XP I finally managed to get the audio working on my HP Pavilion dv4z-1000 CTO![]()
Here is what I did to get itworking:
1. Install the UAA driver SP33867
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftware
2. Run Windows update and install all audio drivers in Hardware, Optional
3.Install the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver SP41398 (this is a Vista driver, but it works in XP and it's the final solution to the audio problem!)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftware
As soon as the last driver is installed you should see the mute on/off light at the top of the keyboard change from orange to light blue. After rebooting you should be happy to hear the familiar XP intro sound. I was jumping for joy at 3am in the morning when I heard it working.
I hope that helps a lot of people out there who've wasted so many hours trying to fix this XP driver audio problem.
Cheers,
Jamie

Thanks for the advice, but I don't want to put myself through that hell again. I've already tried what you said but that solution definitely doesn't work for the dv4-1117nr with x64 XP. I'm learning to live with Vista, not fun but somewhat manageable after turning off a lot of the unecessary proccesses.

- for downgrading to xp please click on this link. So before you or anyone else you might know calls in. If your unit came with vista and you downgraded to xp the hp tech support agents over the phone wont be able to help you. Now I would suggest that if you e-mailed the hp chat support. They might be able to help you with this issue. and also on another note there is one unit by hp that has xp. Its called the mini notebook. please keep in mind that microsoft will no longer be able to support xp pro next year. The only os is going to be xp home. however at the end of next year theres a new os thats called windows 7. I suggest either waiting and dealing with the vista os and waiting for wnidows 7 or to deal with the hp chat support over the internet.

Jamie,
You are a Star!
Just few hours before receiving your message, I could make Laptop speakers working ( at 1:00 am) using http://www.filecloud.com/files/category.php?user_c
But this could not make laptop speaker working.
I updated using drivers suggested by you. It made mic working as well.
Thanks so much.
Just would like to point out here that I have XP Professional SP3, which does not require MS UAA as it comes inbuilt.
One more problem I face is that every time I restarted my laptop, I have to disable and enable driver to make sound working (this is much better than not to have it working!!).
But I think, we all must raise voice gaits HP for not providing proper drivers! I am going to stop and keep complaining to HP. I also have spent many many hours on this!
Again, thank you very much.
Cheers
Keyur
