After some work the icon showed up, crossed, for a few seconds. Nothing else happened.
How can I restart it?

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30-60 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
4-power on

Do you see beats icon on right hand side of your taskbar or in notification area? The keyboard shortcut to Enable or Disable beats feature is FN + B

Click Start button and in search box type "msconfig" without quotes. It would be open system configuration window
Navigate to startup tab and look for beats audio option and make sure this option has a checkmark beside it so that it starts automatically when you turn on windows.

When delivered Beats was not working on my envy. I installed the IDT HD CODEC and it work for about 4 hrs. and then no sound at all. I reinstalled and it worked for 3 days and then many many problems. The audio manager would show no devices. trying to reinstall would bring error messages from hardware not compatible or microsoft buss error. There had been a large windows 7 seven update so I did a system restore. I still will get no audio at times reinstall drivers IDT HD Driver v. 6.10.6381.0 and it will work again.
I do not see any drivers more current
please help
