burn video dvd of recorded Media Center tv program

Lately I'm having a problem when burning a dvd via Media Center (Vista Home Premium): I open MC, select recorded TV, select the recorded tv program, select burn dvd, select video dvd, then the harddrive churns for about 2 minutes, and finally I get an error message saying Media Center has stopped working, and Media Center shuts down and restarts. When I look at Control Panel, problem reports, it says there was a problem with Media Center Extensibility host. Note that if I select data dvd rather than video dvd in the Media Center sequence, the dvd burns OK (naturally as a data dvd, not video - so will play on a computer, but not in a dvd player).

My dvd burner is working fine; in fact, I can burn a video dvd of the same program that Media Center couldn't. I was able to burn video dvds with MC in the past.

Unfortunately, I cannot use System Restore, as I'm having a problem with it also; does not work except in Safe Mode, and during part of the troubleshooting of that issue, I turned System Restore off and back on again, so lost all my old restore points.

Does anyone have any advice other than doing a System Recovery?
