computer hang ups

I have a HP Pavillion dv7-1135nr  with vista home premium.  while using the laptop, the computer hangs up.  The curser changes to an active state and makes its circle for any where from 5 to 30 seconds.  Going to the task manager and trying to stop it does nothing.  The computer does it when connected to the internet or not connected to the internet.  I use Webroot antivirus and antispyware which is updated several times per day.  Have also used Panda software, Spybot and several others  - each seperately after deleting the prior one from the hard drive to avoid any interferance - to examine the hard drive for spy ware and bugs.  all bugs appear to have been eliminated.  The problem continues.  I have since re-installed all of the software from original disks  ordered from HP using the recovery format  and by using the format and install portion of the program.  HELP PLEASE!!  I would like to do an old style format function on the hard drive and then reinstall the original hardware unless you have a solution to this problem

Any assistance you can render would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

MMM

Re: computer hang ups

I'm there, i've got a dv6 hp laptop, did the windows 7 upgrade, and started having problems with media player lockin up, after running the task manager to get it to stop, i couldn't even open the program again and others, untill i rebooted the computer. I was looking for a specific program interfacing problem with the os, and low and behold, i shut down webroot, problem solved. I have put in a complaint with webroot, and their staff is "supposedly" looking at the problem.
