Try the following steps and drivers for your model
Make your Vista Recovery cd/dvd if you haven't yet, found out here
Your model needs AMD sata driver to be sliptreamed onto XP CD installer.
If you did it right, you'll pass BSOD error.
Use Nlite to slipstream AMD sata driver.
A good guide to sliptream sata driver, here
Note: Do NOT use sata driver from that guide, your sata driver is given below.
AMD SATA AHCI Controller Driver, here
or
if you wish an AMD SATA driver from HP site, here
extract sp39719 to a folder and use files in RAID7xx folder
if it does not work, you may try sp40046 for the latest AMD Sata AHCI controller from HP ftp site, here
Important Notes:
1.In Nlite, choose the option of insert -> multiple driver folder
2. Select ONLY x86 driver for AMD SATA AHCI
3. Never choose x64 driver when asked
Nlite download, here

I also want to use XP on my CQ45 206-AU. I slipstreamed my xp bootable cd, first with sp39719 but it didn't seem to work then I tried with sp40046. It worked first time. I passed the blue screen error but after copying files when windows restarts and starts installing devices my notebook just turns off. I don't know what happens it doesn't show any blue screen error or anything, it don't even restarts it just turns off like I had shut it down. Now I'm gonna try the AHCI driver given by Rakhmad( thank u very much for all those detailed instructions).
I will write here again what happens this time...............

This "starts installing devices my notebook just turns off" would be interisting.
XP instalation that involve intensive load of CD/DVD driver, Harddisk, and Processor may generate a significant heat.
You may consider a cooling pad while installing XP.
Please make sure you are not blocking the airflow of the notebook.
Good luck

OK...... Xp installed, and all drivers also installed succesfully. Thank u very much for this comprehensive guide.
Just few things....... first I cannot find the IDT icon in my system tray (and also anyhwere on my system). Sound is working fine but I can't adjust the equilizer or microphone and all that without that IDT control centre that I had on Vista.
Second thing is Figureprint reader. There is no driver for that, so how do I use it. Also when I increase or decrease volume it doesn't show it on desktop as it used to show on Vista.
Few things more that I want to ask...........
Can I install XP on my USB hard disk (Actually it;s a normal PATA HDD that I'm using throug Hard disk case)?? Coz I first tried to install it on that but I saw that blue screen error again. So if there's any way plzzz tell me.
I haven't formatted my Vista partition (I shrink it to make another partition and installed XP on this new partition, now whenever I want to use Vista I need to insert a Vista bootable DVD and just repair that startup to makethe disk boot Vista not XP, but if I do this I cant get back to XP). So I want to remove Vista partition completely and use XP only. Just wanted to ask if that Recovery Partition contains OS too??? I mean if I remove Vista and then I want to restore system to factory settings will I be able to do that through that recovery partition??

Yes, its do able, however the idea of notebook is mobility

Vista and XP can be installed as dual booting system, see this guide
Recovery disks can restore to factory setting, including recovery partition.
Reason of edit: I have problem with internet line, post was redundant with above post
