1st thing to keep in mind is that HP does not support XP on your model.
2nd relates to the lack of support from HP.You will need to identify all hardware in Device Manager before removing Vista to know which drivers you will need in XP. Which wireless adapter, which video chip, etc.Make a list now.
3rd thing is the need to slipstream SATA driver into XP install cd since you have Intel controller and a SATA hdd which XP will not recognize without the SATA driver.
Part 3 of the XP Downgrade Guide will provide help with the SATA driver and slipstreaming. It also provides many drivers.
Be sure you have burned your Vista Recovery set before starting the process in case you decide to go back to Vista.F11 will no longer work to boot into Recovery once you change OS!

If you need a more detailed guide on SATA driver and slipstreaming, Daniel has a guide devoted to just that topic HERE

Many owners change to XP for specific software requirements, hope of increasing performance, etc. The task does require a real desire since it isn't straightforward or easily accomplished.
If you have no software requirements for XP why not consider going with>> Windows 7 It is better than Vista, uses less resources, more stable, etc.
