Hi,
1st create the recovery media if machine came as pre-installed OS. this will help you recover the OS any later time. remember once you change teh master boot record, you will not be able to perform recovery using f11.
steps to create media and how to recover is available here.

since windows must be installed in complete HDD, take some space out from the current partition. windows 7 disc management allows you to shrink the volume and you will have some unpartitioned space.
after that you can just install the ubunto as parellel install on the free space and leave the windows partituions untouched.
