dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

I don't know if it's because of the OS, but i'm a little disappointed with the performance of my laptop. I

I've reformatted twice using the recovery partition and the system still seems to run slowly. It takes more than 5 minutes to the hard disk light stops blinking.'I've tried to disable everything with the msconfig, but no success. And I dont believe that a clear install will solve the problem, does this hp softwares have such influence in the performance?

So, I'm looking forward to downgrade to XP, is it possible?

specs: dv4t-1200 [ T9400 / 4GB / Geforce 9200GS / 250GB ]

Yes it is indeed an option. You actually could have ordered it with XP preinstalled. You are going to need to purchase  Windows XP. If you can avoid it, do not purchase the Home version.

XP chipset drivers.

HP drivers and software

Audio driver information is located here

Hi,

First make Vista beckup. All informations how to do it here.

You have a folder with drivers & programs that may prove very helpful after XP downgrade. Copy folder C:\Swsetup to DVD Before formatting your hdd.

Update You Bios here. There are very big changes so You should do it.

Now You need to slipstream Your Sata drivers (only ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller) with nLite.

Here is guide how to do it and here are Sata drivers  for You. Just unrar this drivers with winrar.

Be sure also that You are using WinXP SP2 version. If you haven't got SP2 version here you can download this service pack

and here You have got guide how to slipstream this file with Your system again by nLite.

In this program You can even burn Your new XP cd with this driver.

Please check first this link written by Joshua Wood and concentrate in it on problems that may appear when You will be installing sound card. I know then this is guide for dv5 but many hardware and drivers are the same for both models.

1. sp41698, vista driver, reported work in XP here

2. sp41693, vista driver, reported work in XP here

3. sp39671, vista driver, reported works in XP here or here

4. Find Your Vista audio driver on this DVD where You burned C:\Swsetup folder. It may also work under XP.

When You will install any audio driver with success check is Your sound working.

If there will be no sound after restart check this thread. There are informations how to solve this.

Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

Informations about devices in Your model I took from this site. So I'm not sure then You will have all drivers to it. If You need something more let me know. :smileywink:

After installation of all software from guide if there will be still any yellow signs in Devices Manager click on it with right button of Your mouse and choose properties. Then click on bottom details and copy here device id.

This way I will find for You still needed drivers.

Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

@Rakhmad

Well you can add this to you personal knowlegebase.

There are many notebooks and desktop products that have the option of being delivered with XP and also with downgrade options from Vista.

The reason is that many businesses and consumers still prefer XP.

That is why you see so many individuals requesting downgrade to XP.

When you arrive at the download drivers and software area there is an OS option page (for a great number of desktops and laptops) where you will notice that you are asked to select which operating system before you actually get to the drivers and software.
