Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

@erico,

Please rephrase your statement regarding HP consumer notebook. Yes for Business notebook HP still release notebook with XP as preinstalled OS but not for consumer notebook.

If you have a proof, please provide a link that stated HP supports XP for their consumer notebook, I would very glad to add it to my personal knowledge.

Last released of HP consumer notebook that release XP is Presario V6700, however, not the latest models of pavilion and presario.

The option of operating system in HP consumer support page is only an empty page, or maybe one or two drivers but not all of the reqired drivers.

This is not an offensive post and nothing personal, you are welcome to proof me wrong.

@Erico

Are You sure of that? Few times in this month users complained about not supporting XP anymore by HP.

Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

@Rakhmad

Rephrasing is not really necessary. Suppport can easily be as loosely defined as a company being magnanimous enough to supply a few drivers for clients. The reality is that when it comes to Laptops and notebooks available on the market in various counries, you get what you selected as available options when you purchase the device. There is no legal backwardly compatible OS required legally mandating the company to supply all of the drivers that a product was not sold with. You may consider this a response that is intrinsically semantic, but that is how it is in business and marketing. That is unlikely to change due to the regulations that companies are required to abide by in various countries (i.e. the EU, UK, USA). It is quite an interesting game they all play, in a manner of speaking.

I certainly did not take your response as offensive nor as a personal attack. We are in the same playing field, you and I.

Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

@erico

Rakhmad is right_only business class laptops such as 6735s,6730b,6930p,8530p etc can be ordered with XP. I have yet to see a Pavilion/Presario consumer class machine offered with that option.

Only two consumer class machines, afaik, offered as somewhat a consolation with XP_the V6700TX laptop and the Compaq CQ2009F desktop.Neither has been highyly successful in sales since they do not have high-end hardware,probably intentional as well to push consumers to Vista models.:smileysad:

Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

@rivets,

Since you have a CTO model, a model that consumer can choose their own spec, I recommend you to refer to answer provided by answertome in this thread

For Nvidia drivers, please download the latest driver from Nvidia site here

Please take note that install MS-UAA before Nvidia graphics, IDT sound, modem drivers.

Nvidia has bundled HDMI driver in their latest graphic driver. Please post if you have any trouble installing XP.

Good luck

Re: dv4t-1200 Is it possible to downgrade to XP?

The HP mini is sold with Win XP installed.
Online stores such as  Buy.com, PC Nation, MacMall, PC Connection, Provantage, California Computer Center, Tiger Direct, Geeks.com, Overstock.com, and USANotebook still often have XP models in their inventory.

[ Edited ]

@Daniel

I will have to say that regarding the very specific question Rakhmad he posed, he is right.

If you go to products and services and select consumer notebooks and laptops you will see that the mini is indeed offered with XP. There is one that is named the "HP Mini 1000 XP Edition".  If it is sold with XP then they have to support it. As I said before about support, it is aapparently a rather loosely applied concept. Cheryl is right about the push to Vista. It is just a matter of the business'  bottom line.
