dv7-1183cl cd and dvd burning issues

I purchased the dv7-1183 from costco, and thought I would love it, but it has been nothing but struggles...the biggest being that it doesn't seem to burn dvd or cd's very well.  Initially I was working on a DVD for my dad, and created a dvd through MS movie maker, it burned just fine, but when I went to do a copy of it failed half way through it.  I tried then to do a standard cd disk copy with no luck.  Where i see the issue is the program (tried default program with computer and nero) reads the source disk, then I am prompted to put in blank disk.  At this point, it doesn't seem to recognize the disk.

I restored the system because I was seeing other issues with drivers, so thought this would help.  After first coming up I did a disk copy of a dvd and that worked fine.  I then started installing stuff and the problem started again.  I thought it could be from Picasa 3, so I uninstalled with no luck, I then deleted the cd device and had it re-added thinking the driver was screwed up.  No luck.

I returned computer thinking it was a faulty burner...by the way couldn't find any driver for the Opiarc BD Rom BC5500S.

I tried another one, since the package was a nice system and exactly what I wanted.  My new one is also having the problem, with never having picasa installed.  I am very frustrated.  I am not new to computers but am new to Vista.  So far I hate it, but that is more due to the fact I am frustrated, though it is slower then what I expected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
