Re: enabling AHCI on DV7 2173cl

It should be AHCI by default, an no you cannot change this setting in the bios.

Where do you see ide?

Re: enabling AHCI on DV7 2173cl

had installed my intel 520ssd and didnot seem to be quite as fast as the seagate hybrid I am replacing, which got me looking, hence grabbed drive meter gadget for desktop, info on drive meter says they are ide. Any ideas as to the slowdown, not huge but noticeable, actually see the hour glass again (sucks). While picking your brain is there a way to get past 500gb hard drives (bios) on this computer?

Thanks Ken

Re: enabling AHCI on DV7 2173cl

HP bios's are very limited, nothing you can do about that unfortunately.

Not sure what you mean by "get past"

Is the drive not recognized properly in the bios?

Don't know where you read that but it is wrong. I haven't seen hard drive size limitation in bios's for a long long time.

If your SSD is Advanced Format, see this page. Not really sure if this even applies to SSD drives.

Re: enabling AHCI on DV7 2173cl

Just to follow-up I have a dv6t that I installed a samsung SSD drive.  The Samsung magician drive software warns that the system is not running in AHCI mode.  There is no setting in the Bios to change.  Yes, it is running slower than it should.  Bios Insyde F.0A
