Hi,
Open windows Control Panel, open Mouse, click the Device Settings tab and click the Settings button. Click on the entry Scrolling ( ie not on + sign to the left of this entry ) and you should find a slider to adjust the scrolling speed. Set this as desired and then click Apply to save the change - be aware that this will also effect the vertical scrolling speed.

Under Mouse Properties, tab Device Settings, button Settings...I got a nice "Properties for Synaptics TouchPad V7.5 on PS/2 Port" settings selection and demo" screen. I could uncheck or check Scrolling, but there is no + sign and no slider. I did notice that the horizontal scrolling demo is with and Excel spreadsheet; so, I tried scrolling in Excel. It works ok. But, scrolling on a web page moves in very small increments.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. At this point I'll probably use the scroll bars.

Hi,
You may want to try the following to see if this will give you the option I described previously.
First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp5235
Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again and see if the option is now available.
--------------------------------------------------
If the driver I suggest fails to install, use Recovery Manager to reinstall your original Synaptics Driver - the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.
After the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

Followed your instructions. I see it all now. Works as expected. I was surprised that the version I uninstalled, if I read correctly, was 15.2.4.4, wheres the version I downloaded and installed is 15.1.6.64A. Doesn't matter. One thing that helps is seeing the illustration of the scrolling regions on the pad. I think I'm good to go. Thanks a bunch,
