I purchased a compaq presidio in June 2010. my warrenty expired. obviously, in June 2011. of course, my hard drive failed. kaput, in august 2011.
1st, HP, instead of standing by thier product, at first, wanted to charge me 40 a month to diagnos a laptop i couldnt even turn on. the best i could do was replace a hard drive for 70.00 dollars. all my computers, cameras, and printers, even my copy paper is Hewlitt-Packard. No more! HP stands for "Horrible Products". And, with Meg Whitman at the helm, its only gonna get worse. Hey anyone willing to protest HP Headquarters.? Never again shall i fall prey to ya big corperate shannanigans. Hopefully Meg will do to HP what she did to her housekeeper. Destroy her...

It was out of warranty, no company does Free repairs outside of the warranty period, at least they never have for me.
Sorry your hard drive failed so soon, I have had a few do that on different brands of PC's over the years.
Send a polite email to the HP CEO team and tell them your thoughts about how you were treated.
