Re: hp pavilion wont start? help please.

As it turns out my HP Pavilion dv7-3060us had the same thing happen.  While using it it just shut off.  When trying to restart it would shut off again and again.  When trying to start it would shut off before any bios would come up.

Everything I've tried didn't work.  Found multiple "try this" ideas, but none of them have worked.

Found an article on YouTube about the same problem.  Seems there is a problem with the combined cooling of the CPU and Video chip.  The Video chip come unsoldered from the motherboard due to the heat.

Without paying someone to fix and resolder or doing it yourself it won't work.

My laptop is just over 2-yrs old and now it's total junk. Purchased and registered it on 1/4/2010.

Heard there is a class action suit for this problem, but can't find the link.  If you heard or know, please post.  Is there anything else I can do versus tossing it in the trash?

The issue and resolution with the NVidia chipsets and computer vendors has long expired. It only covered specific notebooks and a resolution was reached between affected parties and the vendor.

google Nvidia Settlement for aditional information. It is no longer active

Re: hp pavilion wont start? help please.

Even though the past issue has been settled, is there anything I can do with my now junk laptop?  I purchased it 2 years ago January 4th, and now it's dead.  It won't start or boot to bios.  I pulled the HD and confirmed it still works on another machine as a slave.

Seems odd that this machine only lasted 2 years.  I have other older DELL Desktops that are close to 6-yrs old and they are still running.

This laptop didn't get used for school or work and was only used arond the house or in the study.  It lived a pretty easy life and still died an early death.

Given the past problems with the Video and Motherboard, I question whether or not HP still has this problem and whether or not a replacement will also fail.

Is there any hope that HP can help me and other users?  Or am I S.O.L.?

Can you provide a number, email, or other form of contact?

It is for this reason I was using this forum as I couldn't find who to contact.

Re: hp pavilion wont start? help please.

I tried the hard start as described by removing all power including the battery and holding the power on for 20 seconds then returned the battery and power adapter and tried to turn it on. All the blue lights come on plus there are two flashing ones on the keyboard one above the "end" key and the other by the " caps lock" key. Nothing comes on the screen. It worked good yesterday and then I night I closed the cover and it was to shut down. Well it shut down alright now it won start up please help. Thank you.

Re: hp pavilion wont start? help please.

The laptop does not go into BIOS post-up, so the problem would have to be basic. I contacted a motherboard repair shop and they said the problem is with a solder joint on the Northbridge chip it heats up and a already bad connection become worse. They told me that this is a commom problem with the DV7. Check out Ebay for a repair service and ask.
