i have windows 7 installed and want to reverse it to original os but the recovery disks dont work

i have a HP Pailion dv2998nr and i upgraded to a windows 7 ultimate and now i can not get the recovery disks to work and the recovery partition apears empty

1.Right-click on "Computer" icon and select manage.
2.This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
3.On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and it will show you all of the partitions.
4.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
5.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without pressing F11).

i can not get to the desktop to do any of that, and the recovery partition seems to be empty

What happens when you try to boot from the Recovery Disk?

Try booting with a utilty cd to delete existing partitions, create 1 & format hdd. I have had good results with the free Partition Wizard .Download the Bootable CD iso here . Get ImgBurn here to burn the image to cd.
If all operations are successfull, try booting with Recovery Disks again.

it dont do anything, would it make a differance if i burm them on to cds instead of dvds
