keyboard not working

spilt coffee over laptop while on log in screen, powers up fine and all programs etc work but keyboard not working properly - having to use on screen keyboard. pavillion dv6. any help appreciated.

Coffee has more than likely entered into the contacts of the key board and/or the ribbon cable connector from the keyboard to the mother board.
You may need a new keyboard, but if you clean the contacts on the ribbon cable that may fix it. Use Isopropyl as a cleaner. It will dissolve any sugar or cream (fat) that was in the coffee with out harming the laptop.
There is no way to physically take the key board itself apart to clean it.
Here is you maintenance and service guide for you model to remove your keyboard.
