lsass.exe - Application failed message appears on blue screen HP invent

The message appears when I turn on computer HPzv5000.  In the box it says" the application failed to initiate properly (0xc0000005).  Click OK to terminate the application."  From researching the HP website I believe it is some sort of virus but I cannot access the computer to do anything about it.  I've tried everything including safe mode but the computer will not boot.  Can anyone help?

What exactly does that error say. We need all of it and as accurately as possible to find a fix for it. Double check all numbers and spelling.

Always write down any changes you make within Windows Services. For most, avoiding Windows Services is the best course of action.

The box says Isass.exe - application error. The message within the box is what's in quotes on my original msg.

Re: lsass.exe - Application failed message appears on blue screen HP invent

I would like to apologize for "dago517" reply.

Your information was indeed accurate and to the point.

The computer boots up - shows the windows logo - then displays a popup error message as you described

Lsass.exe application error.

Clicking ok (twice) leaves the screen black - and nothing ever happens.

Back up your data by taking the hard drive OUT, and using a second computer to back up the personal data.

There isn't much out there that answers your question.

99% of everything I found says "repair" (use the windows xp disk, click R on the SECOND screen for recovery (not the first repair).

The "risk" is having two user accounts (owner and owner.numbers).

Also, even if this works, you need to scan for viruses (it could be as simple as your antivirus saying that lssas.exe was corrupt! - see ca internet security for instance).

I also did a check disk - just in case the structure of the hard drive has crapped out. But that takes an hour and in this case, the disk was ok.

Hope this was a little more information.

A couple things to try:

Spybot Search and Destroy

http://www.safer-networking.org/

Eset trial AV

Re: lsass.exe - Application failed message appears on blue screen HP invent

HELLO PEOPLE

maybe this has not been clear.

you can not run a program any program if you can not get into the operating system.

if you can not get to a dos prompt

if you can not get into windows

if you can not get into the desktop

then you can not run a program.

so, suggesting antivirus software, while seemingly a good thing to do, does not help, in fact, makes your suggestion about as useful as windows in a submarine.'

let's try this one more time.

you try to boot up your computer

you get an error message

the computer then hangs there.

it is a black screen.

there is no prompt

there is no desktop

it is, for all intents and purposes a dead computer.

the computer does not work, it does not speak. it is not pining for the fjords.

it is a dead computer. (dead parrot reference, are you getting the picture?)

the solution is

to get lsass.exe from another computer and load it onto the infected computer.

and you can not do this with a boot disk.

because lsass.exe is active and running and can not be stopped and replaced on the spot.

once you get the computer running, then yes, running anti-virus software is a good thing.

because the computer died because of a virus (which one you ask? ha. figure it out!)

[ Edited ]

The point was to pull the hard drive place it on another machine as a slave or in an enclosure and scan it there.  Once clean, put it back in the laptop and go from there, or you could wipe and reload the system.

For roughly $25.00 you could have an external solution

VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter
