no battery in use

I don't usually use the battery of my laptop. I removed it since I always plugged the adaptor. Is this okay or it will have bad effect?

Hi,

It's fine and also good way to preserve the life of your battery if you are always using the AC Adapter - the best way to store the battery is to drain it to around 40% charge and then store it in a cool ( not freezing ) place.

If I don't use the batter and keep aside and suppose if I am using it with directly power supply and any point of time if power goes then suddenly the laptop will power off. Then will it affect my laptop hardware and software settings

That's also my concern since it happened to me many times. What could be the effect to my computer when it was not shut down properly?

Hi,

The effects on your operating system of an unexpected shutdown can vary considerably from a simple 'Windows failed to shutdown correctly' error when you next start, to data loss and being unable to boot the operating system at all.

If you live in an area where power outages are common, I really would recommend keeping the battery installed just to avoid these sorts of problems.

There are other alternatives you could consider such as purchasing an Uninterruptible Power Supply but as simply keeping the battery installed will give the same protection, I'd personally just stick with that.
