when i turn on my HP pavillion dv7 1264nr it goes to the black screen and says startup normally or repair recommended then it goes to the windows screen where it shows a little box and yellow  lines going to the right  then it just shuts completely  off. can anyone tell me what i can do or should i take it in for repair

Enter BIOS setup by tapping/holding the F10 key immediately after powering on the laptop.Use Diagnostics to test your hdd.
