Hello,
Ever since upgrading to windows 7 (from vista) my battery life has easily been cut in half if not more. With vista I could run in power save for upwards of three hours depending on what I was doing. Since upgrading even non-intense activites like word porcessing can drain the battery in just over an hour. Is something wrong? I though 7 was going to provide better battery life...
Your powerless customer,
Nicklas

HP Pavilion dv9000 battery tips
Your new HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to your computer manual for charging instructions).
When charging HP Pavilion dv9000 battery for the first time your computer may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Simply remove the battery from the computer and repeat the charging procedure.
If laptop battery will not be in use for a month or longer, it is recommended that it be removed from the device and stored in a cool, dry, clean place.

Only cut in half. You have nothing to complain about. After installing Win 7 on my dv9317CA, my battery life went to 9 minutes!!!
Check out this thread, it is a common issue with upgrading these laptops to Win 7, the problem is yet to be determined
one FYI for you is I bought a new battery, and even though Windows said it was 25% worn when I first installed it, my battery life went up to 1.5 Hours. I can live with this for now
I am holding off upgrading my GF's dv6400 laptop to 7 unless a fix to this issue is found

Try the Balanced Power Plan in the Control Panel Power Options.
Don't let real time antivirus scans to run in the background. Schedule your scans.
Don't let real time hard drive defragging to run in the background. Schedule your defrags.
At the Run window enter the following:
cmd
powercfg -energy (this will take about a minute and then will store the report in your root folder for the active user)
Look over the report and decide what actions you want to take.

Hi! New to the forum and Windows 7.
I have a DV9000 that I installed Windows 7 on it.
The battery had the red X thing going on, and I had all the symptoms everyone is talking about, under-charging the battery, telling me it's bad, etc.
I have it working right now (I think) here is what I did.
1. I unplugged the battery (So I wouldn't kill it)
2. I plugged in the APC UPS I had the power supply for the laptop plugged into (since I was pulling the battery and I didn't want to go down if the power hicupped)
3. I allowed microsoft windows update to install the drivers for APC.
The message on my battery changed from what it was when i had it unplugged but had not installed the APC software.
Just for grins, I plugged back in the battery, and it recognized it, charged it and when I unplugged the computer it lasted about the right length of time before shutting my computer down.
I think APC's ACPI drivers fixed whatever was wrong with my ACPI drivers from HP.
JFTR, I am running windows 7 - 64bit, 2GB RAM...
I hope this helps someone who is having battery issues under windows 7.

I have had a terrible experience with my Pavilion dm4-2070 and the battery problems. Although I LOVE the computer, I have had a disaster with the battery life. I immediately had a problem from the first days that I had the computer. HP has been very helpful but the problem persists. I have been sent a new battery which did not solve the problem. I then went through the inconvenience of sending my computer back, paying $15 to get it back within one week. Was on vacation without my computer while it was being repaired and was thus disconnected the entire time and finally picked up the repaired computer at FedEx only to find that it is not repaired at all and still will not hold a charge. I live on the East Coast and spent the entire Hurricane without a computer since I could not run it on the battery.
Very frustrating ..A waste of over $800 and still not solution.

HI ppl,
I have a simillar but more serious problem with my dv9000. The battery doesn`t charge at all, and since the last win7 update (don`t know if that makes a difference) I can`t even start the laptop without a battery, which means it cannot use the power directly from the charger... Now I can`t start it up normally.. When I do manage to start up windows ,I can get around 30 seconds from the baterry, and I am able to see the baterry icon with an X, 0% and it says pluged in, not charging... So, I`m pretty sure it`s not a hardware thing because the laptop can recognize that it is plugged in...
Please help!
