upgrading the ProtectSmart driver for windows 7

hello,

i'm using HP dv5-1125nr notebook upgraded to windows 7 ultimate (64bit), after the upgrade the ProtectSmart for the harddisc is disabled and can't be enabled so i saw an updated driver (4.0.3.1.A) here for win7 and my notebook:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-76187-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

while trying to install it it says : "HP 3D Driveguard

there is a problem with this windows installer package. a program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. contact your support personnel or package vendor." and then goes back and exits. here is a printscreen:

Re: upgrading the ProtectSmart driver for windows 7

I would suggest restart the system. Delete the downloaded one. Delete this folder sp45501 under C:\SWSetup. Download the file again from the following link and install:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501/sp45501.exe

I just tried and installed it on couple of systems without any issues.

I am an HP employee.

Re: upgrading the ProtectSmart driver for windows 7

thank you both guys, but unfortunately neither worked. trying to restart, delete 45501 folder and reinstall made the same error message.

and i couldn't uninstall protectsmart from control panel, it would put me the same error as on updating it: " there is a problem with this windows installer package. a program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. contact your support personnel or package vendor".

i also didn't succeed in installing the AMD Raid update, during the Analyze process it would stuck in the middle and not advance further, if it's equals to the installation of the ATI Catalyst Control Center then i already installed it (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-75804-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&url=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975741&product=3795326&os=4063&desc=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975741)..

what can i do?

thanks ahead.

Re: upgrading the ProtectSmart driver for windows 7

Try the following steps:

1. download sp39622.exe, sp45416.exe and sp45501.exe

2. run sp45416.exe and select to uninstall then run sp39622.exe and select to uninstall

3. uninstall HP 3D Driveguard through control panel again.

4. reboot

5. run SP39622.exe, choose custom install and unselect AMD HP 3D Driver support.

6. install SP45501.

7. run SP39622 and installed AMD HP 3D Driver support

8. install graphics driver SP45416
