Just use the W7 installation disc to wipe the drive. I always recommend this as it gets rid if Vista entirely. That way there is no chance of getting errors because you're starting from "unallocated space" as if you were putting in a bran new hard drive. Do the usual and create some recovery discs in case you have to go back to Vista and of course back up all your personal stuff to be reinstalled later.

There is also a file in drive "C" called SwSetup that you should save. In there are your drivers from Vista which will work in W7 and more importantly is the software that the W7 install disc won't have, like Microsoft Works and I am guessing Cyberlink DVD suite. It's a very useful file.

Ounce you save all the things that I have said, then go for the clean install. You will have less trouble in the end.

Here is a great tutorial from Cheryl on how to do a clean install. It has screen shot's too.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/windows-7-clean-install-part-1.htm

After the install the first driver you will want to load is your video card driver.

I took a quick look and there are no drivers for your model in W7, but like I said your Vista drivers should work fine.

If the whole thing doesn't work you can always revert back to Vista with your recovery disc's that I asked you to make.

Just to answer your question, I wouldn't use wipe drive. It actually doesn't wipe the drive. It fills it with a bunch of useless information so no one can retrieve what was ever on the drive from before. Wipe Drive is used if you ever decide to take your computer to the recycling depot.

That doesn't sound like a very stable place to put a new OS if you were to use Wipe Drive.

Re: use wipedrive tool to erase hard drive

I agree with HaggisCat, many times these 'special' hdd wiping tools cause more problems than solutions. Win 7 dvd can be used to format your hdd just fine.

In order to help you find correct drivers if needed after 7 install, we need the full model number and/or P/N from the Service Tag on bottom of your laptop.V6000 is the series, of which there are hundreds of models.Shown in Section 1 and 2 HERE

Re: use wipedrive tool to erase hard drive

Default drivers in Windows 7 will install most all drivers except some HP custom drivers i.e., Quick Launch Software, Card reader,  etc. In general 80% of drivers can be automatically detected by Windows 7 installer or installed by running Windows Update from Control Panel after installing Intel Chipset.

Get Intel Chipset, infinst911autol installed first thing.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver win7_1512754

Realtek RTL8101, sp38900 or sp44999

Intel PRO/Wireless,sp41263 or sp45671

Ricoh Card Reader Driver, sp37614

HP Quick Launch Button software, sp46731

Realtek High-Definition Audio, sp38899 or here

Re: use wipedrive tool to erase hard drive

To permanent wipe hard drive, you can use third party hard drive wiping tool. Such tools can easily remove the data and make them all unrecoverable.
