Re: vista install error, 0x80070017

Were you trying to perform a system restore using the the recovery manager ? If you were to push the "f11" key on start up, is this when you get the error message ?

What part of your hard drive did you format ?

Re: vista install error, 0x80070017

Are you using a retail VISTA installation disk or an OEM VISTA installation disk?

Here are some other people having the same problem. Some used an external DVD drive while others used Image Burn to create ISO files and did the installation from them. (not sure hoe they did that).

One of them installed Vista on a new hard drive and that worked, where he was getting the error on his old formatted HD.

I think that's the key. You have to delete the whole hard drive. Formatting is not enough. Here is a link from Cheryl on how to do a clean install to W7, but I Think the procedure is the same for Vista.

Deleting everything creates "unallocated space" and I believe this is what Vista wants.

Personally I would spend the money and just install a retail version of W7.  I wouldn't even bother with Vista.

Re: vista install error, 0x80070017

This error code appears when I attempt to backup files and folders. As i am running on Windows 7 I don't know why I should get a Vista error message. Any ideas how I can get a proper backup? Thanks.
