I recently purchased a g62 laptop and immediately created the recovery disks - 3 dvds.
i then shrunk the C partition and added a new "data" partition, but what i didnt realize is that in the process i converted the disks to type "dynamic". this happened because there where already 4 partitions and i added a 5th. I am not sure that i want to use dynamic disks at this time, I use ghost to backup partitions and dont know if it will work properly.
So now i wonder, if i use the recovery disks that i created, will it refresh the laptop to factory settings including the original partitions types and sizes?
thanks!

Great question, I would like to know also. I just bought the same model.
I made a full disk image of my hard drive before I booted it for the first time, so I have a virgin copy of the entire drive.
I do this for every system when I buy it, first thing I do is remove the hard drive and connect it to another PC using a USB adapter and image the drive using Acronis.

I restored last night and my laptop was put back to its factory settings - exactly. All the partitions were recreated. now my question is which of the partitions i can drop so i can create one of my own.

Here are what the partitions are
1. Windows Recovery Environment (Hidden from explorer but not disk management) 200mb
2. Operating System
3. HP recovery partition 12+ gb
4. HP diagnostics 103mb
The only one worth recovering space for is #3, the only down side for removing this is if you need to recover and the recovery discs are damaged somehow then you cannot recover your PC at all.
I would make ISO files of the recovery DVDs, this way if a disc goes bad, you can burn another one. Store the iso files on another hard drive.

I just upgraded my G62 with a new larger blank hard drive, used the recovery disks to reinstall, it put all 4 partitions back just like they were on the original hard drive. Be sure to enable the wireless before starting the install process, use Alt + F12 to do this, the light on the F12 key should be green.
The entire process of reinstalling from recovery disks took about 1hr 15 minutes.

Ok,
I burnt the recovery dvds * 4, on the g62-a01sa
I used them, as above the process took about 75mins,
On reboot, the laptop could not find a bootable system.
I have also had the same problem with the toshiba cq62, a very similar laptop.
Luckily i have a windows 7 64bit install disc, so installed that.
As anyone else had the same problem, or know what the error was caused by?

Im not sure of the exact message, but its the one line message that comes up when no bootable drive/cd is found, and the systems asks you to insert boot device and press any key.

All I can suggest is to try the restore again.

Yes i suppose.
To be honest though, i prefer my laptop as it is with a vanilla install of windows 7 which i can mod how i want it, avoiding all the crap bundled software, which i dont need.
