hello everyone, I have a pavilion dm4 running win 7.
A few weeks ago after a windows update my notebook decided it wasn't going to shut down any more unless i powered it down with the button. I have tried to find help and for the life of me can not figure this one out. You tell it to shut down and it decides to restart instead. Please help. Thank you everyone.

Hi
- Try this: Press (Windows Key)+R and type in regedit and hit enter. Locate the following key:
Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Double Click on "PowerdownAfterShutdown"
Then,
Change it to "0" if it is "1" OR
Change it to "1" if it is "0".
And hit Enter.
Then restart the computer and after it restarts try to shutdown again. Hopefully this will work for you.

Hi
I believe you can try doing a system restore to the date where unit was working fine. Please check the previous post correctly and try those steps one more time then restart the unit and have it checked.

Hi
The last option will be to a Recovery on the unit but before doing this kindly back up your data as it will be lost.
