windows live messenger 2009 not working in vista

why does windows vista 2009 not work in vista? get an error code and it indicates settings of the notebook must be changed...so i revert back to version 2008 (ver 8.5 i believe from 2007) if anyone knows what u have to change to make it work i'd appreciate it!

What was the error?  Did you check the event viewer?

thanks for your help..this is beyond my level of comfort to screw around with any further..all i know is i downloaded the entire version 2009 right from the prompt that comes up every time i sign on to my current version of 8.5... and TWO times now i've had the same result and have had to remove version 9 and reinstall 8.5...i get no errors doing the dowload..i only choose messenger and whatever "madatory" components that install with it that i do not choose...possibly HP chat support can "talk" ,me thru it but i'm not able to connect to that today either!!
