windows xp disk cannot detect any partitions to start the install

So after frustratingly trying to install d-small linux, I searched around my house and found a windows xp home edition disk in my storage bin, so when I go to boot up the software it starts, but when I run install the system cannot detect any partitions from the hard drive. So, anyways I can run fdisk through the install disk to create a new partition, or is there a way I can recover deleted partitions (windows xp was on the laptop before it decided to eat the operating system inside out) or is there no hope for it?

Read your other thread on this subject. For instance_did you>>

To be sure your hdd hasn't died, have you entered BIOS setup to see if it is detected? You should also have Diagnostics there to test hdd.
