I've seen many posts on this issue and they all suggest pretty much the same thing....  Reload the drivers for both video and audio.  No success.  How common is it for the HDMI jack to be physically damage and could that happen and allow video but no audio?  Windows7 Ultimate on a probook 4416s.   Under control panel then sound, it is not possible to designate the HDMI driver as the default.   "Not plugged in" is the status.  HDMI cable and flat screen work fine with other PC's
