1. Product Name and Number: Pavilion DM1 4027sa / qj516ea#abu
2. Operating System installed: Windows 7 64-bit (clean build, not from HP Recovery)
3. Error message: N/A
4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred: Clean build of Windows 7 (retail version) from DVD
I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop from a genuine retail DVD because the HP recovery I have is 32-bit and so can't use all the memory in the machine.
I managed to find most of the drivers and important software but am missing the Beats / Audio driver. It doesn't appear on the laptop's driver download page (along with some other software, but that's probably a different story).
I found and installed HP Support Assistant and that found that Beats Audio was missing and allegedly installed it (unless it failed and it didn't tell me). However, it still doesn't seem to be there - there's no Beats Audio icon in the system tray and it doesn't appear as something you can uninstall in the control panel. I also installed HP On-screen Display as apparently this is required but it doesn't appear to have brought Beats Audio to life.
Missing Beats Audio drivers seems to be a common theme on this forum but unfortunately none of the advice in existing posts has worked for me. I suspect that this may be because none of them related specifically to my model of laptop.
Can anyone point me to the Beats Audio / IDT download for my model of PC and/or any suggestions of other ways to get it installed. Note that I don't have HP Recovery Manager installed as I can't find that to download either...

Hi James,
OK... I cannot find any Audio drivers for your system either. Frown.
I did find this notebook IDT Beats Audio Driver that may work:
Beats IDT Audio sp52562 V6.10.6328.0
I also found a Post from out own Expert Vidya that suggests this for the Recovery Manager:
HP Recovery Manager Installer for Windows 7sp53512
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information, Kudos given.
Unfortunately, both the versions of IDT / Beats Audio driver and the HP Recovery Manager are not compatible with my model of laptop, so the search continues...

Rats, I feared that might be the case....
Seems like there should be an audio driver for that system. Could be my search technique needs refining. I'll give another go when I get back to where I can do that.
If that little beast is under Warranty, I'd call HP and ask them where they are hiding the Audio driver... then post back. Smiling.

OK..
Try again:
IDT Audio Driver sp51371 V6.10.6302.0
I do not think this is it.
Still looking...
Audio Driver within the Graphics Driver?
Have you downloaded and installed the AMD Graphics HD Graphics Driver? I ask because the description for the Graphics Driver says it includes the Multimedia Audio driver for this system.
No matter where I've looked, I cannot find a separate Audio driver for this box or any dm1 box, for that matter. It is fussy strange, that. I am wondering if the reason for the mystery is because the full Audio is within the Graphics package. (I do not have access to HP internal databases - this could be a factor.)
I do not have a great deal of confidence in this hypothesis at this point - I admit I am running a bit thin on places to look for this Audio driver at the moment.

Thanks for your help with this.
The HD Graphics Driver AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver sp54964 V8.863.0.0 was one of the first things I installed after re-building. I have checked and it's there to be uninstalled in Control Panel (ATI Catalyst Install Manager).
In Device Manager I have both an 'AMD Hiigh definition Audio Device' and a 'Hiigh definition Audio Device' so I guess one or both of them got installed as part of the HD Graphics driver as you suggest.
I have tried HP Support twice and their only idea is to use Recovery Manager (which isn't download-able either so I can't) or to rebuild the laptop using the HP Recovery Disks (i.e. back to Windows 7 32-bit and all the HP Bloatware). They didn't seem interested in actually finding out where the IDT / Beats Audio driver is and getting it added to the product download page. It must exist somewhere because HP Support Assistant saw that it was missing and tried to download it.

I will try to find the correct driver for you but I need hardware ids of the audio card.
Go to:
Control Panel -> Device Manager
Right click each device with yellow exclamation mark (
) and choose ' Properties '.
It may also appear in the path:
Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Sound, ideo and audio controllers
as IDT audio if Windows Update already installed for it the driver.
Next select ' Details ' tab, use the dropdown selector to choose Hardware Ids and paste all the values from there to the next reply. This way I will be able to find out which drivers you need.
Below you've got example how to do it:

I don't have the IDT and Beats Audio software listed in the uninstall list in control panel. But also I don't have any devices with exclamation marks over them in Device Manager.
Below is what I can find that is sound-related in Device Manager and also a snapshot of Device Manager showing these 4 audio-related devices. For those where the Hardware ID's were too long, I scrolled across to the right. The bit missing off the left - which you can see the first few letters of - is 'HDAUDIO'.
The screenshots might not be in the same order as the device appear in Device Manager but the editing window is so small that I can't see to get them in the right order. Luckily, they each have their name in the title bar of the window so it's possible to see which is which.
