I installed Windows 7 on my DV7-1157cl laptop.
I don't recall having any issues with the sound when I first installed, but there were a bunch of missing drivers immediately following the installation. So I went to the HP driver page and downloaded all of the Windows 7 drivers and installed them.
After installing the drivers, I began hearing a pop in the speakers on startup and shutdown.
I'm sure the problem is with the drivers, because I have since rolled back whatever drivers I could in Device Manager and fixed the pop on startup. I'm still having pop in speakers on shutdown however.
As an aside, I (and Microsoft) were puzzled by HP's insistence that the video drivers for this unit were Nvidia. They're Intel, and the ones WIndows 7 installs do not work properly. We had to go to Intel to find the correct video driver. I'm suspecting something similar with the audio.
This machine is about 1 year old and it is ridiculous that HP is ignoring Windows 7 updates. Any HP engineers listening out there?

i have a dv7i-3300 with the altech lancing sound sys, windows 7 64bit premium, and nvidia chips and graphics. the notebook is 2 days old. fresh install of everything and up to date. the sound pops when i shut down and restart. it doesn't come through the head phones though. i have removed the wireless card (and disabled it's drivers), and I have disabled all other drivers that i could and still boot. the only thing that changes is that the pop goes away on the shut down when i disable the HDT audio CODEC, but it still pops when it boots up. it sounds like the pop is coming throught he base speaker in the bottom of the notebook. I have also turned off the pc speaker (which isn't the same as the base speaker i don't think).
anybody have any new info?

Try updating to this driver: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa
That being said, it only fixed the shutdown pop for my dv7 3170ca.
Please let me know how it works for you and if it solved your problem...

Updated the Bios on reccomendation of HP email support - updated to version F.1B (sp48570.exe 04/23/2010) - this has effectively solved the POPPING issue (along with audio driver update above)
*note; this is for HP pavillion dv7-3170ca - your computer may have a different bios update

Oddly enough, the slight 'click' on startup and shutdown now sounds like it's coming from the left speaker (as opposed to the speaker underneath the computer... just an fyi.
