I ahve a DV8T laptop with xb4 base attached. I keep getting an audio display bar that pops up constantly and when it does it minimizes the display. This is really annoying. Additionally when this happens the volume and base or trebble adjustments automatically go to max levels. I have to mouse click on the screen to be able to do anything. It locks out the keyboard while the pop up is displayed. Is this something I need to send the machine in for repair or a software issue. I startd happening about 6 months ago. Any help would e appreciated.  Thanks in advance

Check in the Lockups and freezes category.  I have a similar problem and found this:

Re: Problem with Pavilion dv8 top slider bar (treble/bass control)

Step 1:  Go to the Support & Drivers page for your specific notebook.  Type in your P/N (Product Number).  Select your operating system.  Then go down and select BIOS and download/run the BIOS update.

Step 2:  Perform a hard reset by powering the computer off and then removing the power cord and battery.  Let the unit sit without power for at least 1 minute and then power it back on.

Step 3:  Reinstall the HP Quick Launch Buttons and HP Tone Control Software.  Go into the Control Panel and select "Programs and Features" or uninstall a program.  Find the HP Quick Launch Buttons software and uninstall it, then find the HP Tone Control software and uninstall it.  Then, go to the start menu and type "Device Manager" into the start search field and then select it from the list above.  Go to the keyboard section.  Right-click on the PS/2 keyboard with QLB and select uninstall - make sure to check the box that says to also delete the driver software.  Restart the system.  Reinstall the software from the links below:

Thanks for the info. I have read with interest the other posts on this. HP has an issue here. I had no idea this problem was so wide spread. I will post and follow in the freezes section. By the way the solution you suggested did not work for me.

Thanks

I have tried all the solutions everywhere on this site and nothing is a permanent fix. HP has an issue here that they are just not willing to accept. Unfortunate this is a good machine otherwise. I will live with the msconfig solution and hope someone will find a permanent fix.

Re: DV8T sound bar and wireless switching on and off without end.

I to had this problem, as well as my wireless switching on and off endlessly. It was very aggravating to say the least. I also noticed that my notebook was getting very hot. I did a lot of researching on these problems and read several complaints without any real solutions. The overheating I thought was a normal characteristic of this large notebook.

My touch panel would act radically popping up the soundboard in the middle of the screen making it very difficult to use.

Today I reached my limit as I tried to post online between the disconnect and reconnect of the wireless card. I shut down the unit and  I removed the keyboard bezel and keyboard. I disconnected the strip from the bezel. I inspected the connector for the strip and I noticed there were copper pins exposed on the back of the connector. It looks like it's normal for that connector. I used some electrical tape to insulate the copper exposed on the connector. I also at the same time covered the wifi cables in the races designed to route the wires. Just thought while I had it apart I would see if it helped.

I reassembled the unit and booted it up. I noticed right away that it started the wireless switched and it remained on continuously (is it that simple)? The true test was to mute and UN-mute the sound button and watch for the sound bar to appear and reappear continuously. It worked as designed. the soundboard appeared for a moment and went off right away. I couldn't believe it worked as designed. But that's not all  !!! after about 30 minutes of use I realized that the notebook was running way cooler that it had from the day I purchased it. I don't know if this has been solved yet but I'm really satisfied with my results...
