Earphone jack doesn't work

When I plug in my earphones to the jack, they will not work. 

 

The speakers work without headphones plugged in.  How do I correct this?

I'm having this same problem. No sound is transferred to my headphones, the speakers still play with the phones plugged in.

Did you get your earphones to work or what have you done.  I have a sound blaster sound card and have the same problem.  After spending hours on the phone the Tech support person said the front jacks WILL NOT work with this

sound card.  I paid for it and want my money back
