External mike problem on HP Envy

I have just bought a HP Envy 14002 beats, the laptops great but the external mike for the headset does not work, the internal mike is fine. I read that it maybe to do with my headset being 3 pole is this right or do I have a problem

Hello,

 

I have found that the type of connector, whether it be a TRS (two rings) or a TRRS (three rings) can have an effect on making an internal connection in the headphone/mic jack. This can be easily tested by making a trip to your local electronics store (Radio Shack, etc.) and testing it with an simple adapter from TRS to TRRS.

 

Hope this helps to get you on track to resolve your issue
