Got a brand new Envy 15 with Beats audio... because audio is "supposed" to be great, but it is driving me crazy.
The audio level (volume) keeps self adjusting itself based on the level of the source. For example, when the audio source is quiet, the laptop adjusts the volume level up, and when the audio source gets loud, it adjust the volume down. I can see that it is trying to keep the volume output level even, but it is driving me out of my freaking mind... I'm about to throw this $1,300 laptop out the window.
Please help me figure out how I can turn that "feature" off!

What are your settings in the Beats Audio Control Panel, under listening experience then graphic equalizer?
Please click the White Kudos star on the left to say thanks.
Please mark Accept As Solution if this resolves your issue.

I've tried unchecking the Beats Audio checkbox, and messed with everything in there I could find.
Is it Beats Audio that is doing the leveling?
What settings should I try?
All I want, is it to not do any leveling/adjusting for me. ![]()

Automatic vloume control is a feature in Beats audio. You can definitly disable beats to stop that from happening. But to use Beats, i would suggest trying the diferent equalizers until you find the best settings.

OK, HP support helped me figure this out!
- Click on start menu and then go to Control Panel.
- Open Sound properties. (You may also open this by typing sound the in the search windows in the start menu, then select the program).
- Under playback tab, you will see a list of options and one item will be selected as green.
- Again select the items that is show in green.
- Click on properties.
- Click on enhancement. Uncheck the option ‘Loudness Control”.
- Click Apply and then OK, then check the sound .
Stupid thing is, I had actually tried this before. I had clicked the “Disable all enhancements” check box before sending note to support. But I didn’t notice the disclaimer “Changes may not take effect until next time you start playback”. I was listening to Pandora, and it wasn’t until I actually rebooted the laptop that the change went into effect.
Whew, thanks HP, now I can go back to loving this wonderful machine!!!

I am happy it worked for you, but I have had this issue all along and that box has never been checked.

Hmmm... have you tried checking the "Disable all enhancements" box, and rebooting?
It worked for me, now I can stand to listen to music on it. :-)

Hey, if we disable all the enhancements does that mean the sound will be less good? Thanks for your reply, I also had this problem, pretty ennoying!

I don't think so. These windows "enhancements" don't seem like much of "enhancements" to me. ![]()
