It should be the 2012 model .... how can you see that?

Apologies, you're right, you have the 2012 model (3000ea).
Apparently, I have the 2011 model which is why it looks different (2101ea) - yours has a slightly better spec than mine and the casing is different. I thought I had bought the 2012 model but it seems I was wrong about that too!

sounds like these units will need to go into service. please call HP and arrange for a service box to be sent to you.

I've now recieved my new replacement laptop and unfortunately it's got exactly the same problem(!)
I did see a posting of a similar issue on a dv model where a new IDT driver seems to have resolved the issue so it could be quite possible that this is a similar type of issue that I'm seeing. However I did check the website and the latest IDT Audio driver available is the one I currently have.
I will raise this with the post sales team on Tuesday when they're next open and also call HP technical support as Sanchertx has suggested.
Did anyone else seeing the problem manage to get it resolved?
