Apologies, you're right, you have the 2012 model (3000ea).

 

Apparently, I have the 2011 model which is why it looks different (2101ea) - yours has a slightly better spec than mine and the casing is different. I thought I had bought the 2012 model but it seems I was wrong about that too!

All, I called HP after sales yesterday (apologies for not updating earlier) and they've confirmed that they will be replacing the laptop for a brand new one. They gave me a choice of a full refund as well. I really do like the laptop so hope theres no speaker issue with the replacement...I'll test this as soon as i get it let you know the outcome. sounds like these units will need to go into service. please call HP and arrange for a service box to be sent to you.

I've now recieved my new replacement laptop and unfortunately it's got exactly the same problem(!)

 

I did see a posting of a similar issue on a dv model where a new IDT driver seems to have resolved the issue so it could be quite possible that this is a similar type of issue that I'm seeing. However I did check the website and the latest IDT Audio driver available is the one I currently have.

 

I will raise this with the post sales team on Tuesday when they're next open and also call HP technical support as Sanchertx has suggested.

 

Did anyone else seeing the problem manage to get it resolved?
