Re: HP G60-535DX Windows 7 Home Premium Internal Microphone Inaudible

I had received a stand up mic too - but becuase it was just one that plugged into the external jack (of the internal mic) it was no better. I called my case manager back and reminded her that I had said it needed to be USB. As Goody2shz says below they are now offering to send out hte USB mics. Geez - finally. I am glad we all stayed on top of them, though or it probably would not have happened. And I still feel they need to stop selling them or post a warning on each and every website and box so that only people who don't need a mic will buy them - or at least know what they are getting.

Re: HP G60-535DX Windows 7 Home Premium Internal Microphone Inaudible

I bought my new computer and discovered the microphone did not work, thus I couldn't use Skype.  I discovered this within 30 days of purchasing it.  Office Depot said they could not help because it was HP that would be responsible for this problem. I have spent hours on the phone with HP talking to many people to no avail. They started by saying they were aware of this problem and the engineering dept. was working on this problem and should have a fix within a week.  It has now been almost two months and when I called today, no change.  When I was first told they would send me  an external mike to carry around and have to plug in. At that time I said "No, why would I want a bandaid for my new computer?  Today, I called to ask if there was an answer to the problem and could still send the mike, I said ":Yes.  What else to do, would like to use Skype.   What kind of a company would continue to sell a product knowing it did not work.  There were blogs back in December so they can't be saying they didn't know it.  What kind of a company is this?!  They continue to sell them even now with no recall.  How do they get away with this.  I can only imagine how many of us are so very disgusted with HP. I am now known as Case # 7501358672  Case manager, Kevin.

Re: HP G60-535DX Windows 7 Home Premium Internal Microphone Inaudible

The long and winding road.....

I had a conversation with an HP corporate executive (higher in the food chain than the Executive Case Managers) today.  She asked me to come on the forum and tell all of you that if you haven't already done so, get a case number AND a case manager.  Don't stop with tech support.  Ask for a case manager--demand a case manager.

I told her that we all want HP to let the public know that there are microphone problems with the G60 Series of laptops.  I told her we want HP to put stickers or something on the boxes BEFORE they go to their supply chain so that a consumer can decide for themselves if they want or need a microphone.  At the very least, the reseller should inform their customers before they allow them to buy something that doesn't have a functioning microphone.  She said that sort of thing has to come from "higher up" than she is, but that she is definitely passing that data along.

I also want all of you to know that people at HP are definitely starting to read the forums (this thread in particular).

Re: HP G60-535DX Windows 7 Home Premium Internal Microphone Inaudible

Well, folks.  I'm done now.  I have accomplished what I wanted to with HP.  I know one person in particular who is very angry with me at this point.  But, that's okay.  I've been pretty angry for months.  She has only been angry for a few hours today.  She will get over it and move on.  I can now move on, as well.

I gave my G60 away, and will no longer participate in these forums.

You can download and install the latest audio driver using one of the following options.

    * The Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio Driver (version 4.98.60.50 A) is available with download and installation instructions at the following link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02032566&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=4041434#

The new driver does this:     keeps the volume at a constant level (external mic plugged into the external jack or just using the internal mic)

Before it used to just fall to zero on its own no matter what you did, so this is an improvement.

However, the mic still sounds bad if you are just using it alone still gives lousy quality - lots of background noise. I skyped someone tonight. To try to improve on the background static/hum, I plugged in the USB mic they'd finally sent. It also has background noise though not quite as bad. When I unplugged it to try just the internal mic again, the speakers went mostly off and I could not hear my friend at all until I plugged the USB mic back in.

No the driver is definitely not a cure all. And the USB mic is not that great either, plus it only has a one yr warrenty. But at least it folds flat to travel with a laptop.

Download the new driver - it helps a little. And besure to fill out the form so HP has your name to keep you updated. Then call HP and get a case manager - forget tech support since there is nothing they can do. All the case manager can do is to be sure you get a USB mic - it also helps - a little.

My case manager said they are working on a hardware fix now. No idea when or if that will actually happen.

Re: HP G60-535DX Windows 7 Home Premium Internal Microphone Inaudible

FWIW, I too recently purchased a G60.  A $300 HP store coupon came my way, so I had to buy an HP.  This thing is flimsy, plastic-y and doesn't seem to be built very well.  I wasn't aware the machine had an internal mic, but I certainly do have my own external unit, which is rendered totally useless by this 600 dollar machine.  I get only the very high volume and high frequencies and it sounds nasty.  Useless.

The HDMI port is also mucked up, in a similar way.  Video makes it out of the 600 dollar machine but does not look very good at all.  Useless.

The battery was great for the first few cycles.  Already after only about 10 cycles, the battery lasts about 40 minutes under light usage.  Very near useless.

Support is pretty much useless too, completely geared toward mundane, obvious problems and crippled by overconfident, often unintelligible and sometimes arrogant front line humans.

Hth.
