I purchased a HP Pavilion G7 1204sa two days ago direct from the HP store. It is the first laptop I have had in two years after my Pavilion DV9000 blew up two years ago.
I loved the new G7, large clear screen, decent size, light and just what I needed for work and pleasure. Unfortunately after two days of having it I finally came across an issue.
I travel a lot and like to watch tv, movies and listen to music on my laptop. I turned the laptop on for only the second time and started to sync my ipod to itunes, as I started playing some music the sound started lagging and the speakers started almost screeching with static... I thought it was a defect but after a quick look online it seems to be a known problem. I installed all the BIOS and driver updates and still no fix.
I am appalled by the poor quality of the speakers on what is otherwise a perfect laptop for me.
Does anyone know a fix for this problem? I have seen it mentioned on hundreds of websites and funny enough the only support forum that doesn't mention it is this HP forum.
I have tried to contact HP support but as I am at work the entire time they are I have very little time to sit hanging on the phone (at lunchtime today I gave up after listening to 15 minutes of music whilst paying through the nose on my mobile phone)
Does anyone else have this issue? I have seen that using external speakers or headphones solves the issue but that is really not the point. I can't even get my head round what could be causing it, the laptop has 6GB of RAM and is new out of the box, it should have no lagging problems whatsoever, especially when playing an .mp3!

Hey there, thanks for the prompt reply.
It told me there is no problem found. The speakers work, just extremely badly!
I have seen someone posting about a similar problem (with a different model) and they said uninstall HP Power Assistant... Mine doesn't have Power Assistant but does have HP Power Manager, is this the same thing? If it is I will try uninstalling that like they suggested, it seemed to work for multiple people in this thread:

I have uninstalled it and restarted the laptop, it seems to run much smoother now, certainly not getting the screeching anymore... yet to test it fully but it is certainly an improvement.
This is clearly a known problem so why are HP still putting this defective software on their laptops?
