HP Pavilion dv4-1275mx sound not working after clean install of Windows 7

Hi All!  I did a clean install of windows 7 - 64bit, from windows vista 64-bit.  After doing the install, I have the red x next to my Sound icon in the tray.  When I look at drivers it says that the HDMI device is not plugged in.  However, I have internal speakers not working.  After reading several threads I did a BIOS Update and a Driver Update (using the Vista driver), but it is still not working. Can anyone please help?

Hi,

Try downloading and installing the IDT dirver on the link below.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45073.exe

When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic

Audio Service

Multimedia Class Scheduler

Windows Audio

Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

When I select Playback Devices, there are no speakers - only Digital Audio and Headphones.  I cannot set either of them as the default as that menu item is disabled.

I looked at Services,

Audio Service - does not exist

Multimedia Class Scheduler - listed as Automatic

Windows Audio - listed as Started, Automatic

Windows Audio Endpoint Builder - listed as Started, Automatic

Did the IDT installer appear to run Ok?

Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers - does the IDT device show in the list and is there any sort of error code?

It appears to run correctly. I had actually run it before I got your email, but ran it again anyway.

In Control Panel, under Devices, Sound, Video and Game Controllers, it shows two entries for "High Definition Audio Device". They both indicate that they are working properly.

What's weird to me is these "high definition audio devices" are listed as being manufactured by Microsoft - versus HP. Shouldn't the sound be coming from the hardware speakers that are internal to the HP computer? Is there anyway to figure out what those speakers are?

Yes, it's definitely wierd.

Certainly, if the IDT driver had installed correctly, you should see an entry very like 'IDT High Definition Audio CODEC'

When in Device Manager, click View and select 'Show hidden devices' - do any Unknown devices now appear in the list?

I did not find 'IDT High Definition Audio CODEC'. I did find the following other things that might be useful:

Under Other Devices, I found an Unknown Device, with this device status:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Under System Devices, I found several Audio related things:

High Definition Audio Controller (there were two entries) - indicated it is working and drivers are updated

System Speaker - says there are no drivers installed for it. I tried updating them and it said it had the most updated.

Hi,

Go into Device Manager, right click on the Unknown device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.

Well it's not the IDT Device

It's the ENE CIR device, you can download and install the driver for this on the link below.

Can you post back with the Hardware Ids for the both the entries under Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
