HP Pavilion dv4-1275mx sound not working after clean install of Windows 7

I went ahead and installed this driver (although I have no idea what it is for).  But, I noticed when I installed it that the computer says "installing device driver" or something like that. But, when I install the IDT driver, it does not say that. So, I'm wondering if it not installing correctly.   Any idea what would make it not install? Is there a place to "add new hardware" in windows 7? Maybe I can do that and then run that driver.

Anyway, the hardware IDs for the High Definition Audio Device:

Hi,

First, make sure you have the IDT driver installer on the link below saved in your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45073.exe

Next, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, open up Sound , Video and Game Controllers, right click the device that has the Hardware Id shown below and select Uninstall.

When the uninstall has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' - see if the installation now completes and whether you now have Audio.  Also check that the IDT device is showing up in Device Manager as it should.

The IDT is still not showing up in Device Manager.  It is almost as if it is not installing the driver.  The exe runs...overwriting files, etc. but i never get the "installing new device driver" message.  is there any other way to install a device?

BTW - now I have no sound options in Device Manager. Does this matter?

I fixed it!!! woohoo.

After I tried our last attempt at not being able to install the correct driver, I did some googling and found this post  which describes installation of another IDT driver - for vista.  I tried it and it ran to completion. Even said "installing device driver"

Not sure what the difference is between the "correct" driver and this one. But, it is working, so I'm not complaining.  And it is listed under the Device manager. the high definition audio one is there too.

I've had the same prob for a while now and just realized that when you "install" the driver it didn't seem to finish the installation.. so I went to the folder the "installation" created and found another setup.exe, ran it and started working almost instantly

Hi..

 Due to some windows updates I lost the sound on my HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop. I even restored it to the factory settings. Nothing helped until now. The "No Audio device is installed" keeps appearing on the task bar and the sound vanishes.

Any help is appreciated.
