Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

I have the same problem, the sound works some of the time except when the quicktouch display stops working, i found out that if I get the laptop hot enough to where it shuts off by itself like, sitting it on a blanket covering the fan, when I turn it back on the sound works fine. this is only a temporary fix and i don't know how bad this is for the computer but it works everytime

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Same thing just happened to me. I don't remember when I did Windows Updates, but it may have been yesterday, and suddenly have both issues. I was blaming iTunes 9 since that crashed my iPod touch & suddenly couldn't find my CD burner when I installed it a couple weeks ago, but I realized they couldn't make my audio device disappear. I've tried downloading drivers, etc., with no luck. I set the computer sound system to no sound, but it keeps making the really loud annoying beeping noise, which drives me nuts (I always kept my laptop on mute unless I specifically needed to listen to something). I hope someone can help!

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Add another misserable HP customer.  Same problems, no solution for weeks. Tried everything.  Nothing helps.  It's bad that this problem is going on for months and that new people are getting this problem every day, and no one is posting a solution for this issue.  Amazing.

Hope that something will happen soon that will releave our problems.

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment dv670. I have the same issues. Missing CD/DVD drive, no sound, QuickTouch on screen display not working etc…

Yesterday, everything seems to be working again after months? I am not sure if this will again only temporarily fix this without a full system recovery via the Recovery Manager, but it may be worth a shot for you.

I used the Recovery Manager which will reinstall to initial factory install. So far it is working; however, I have had occasions that these things will work and then stop again. I had not updated to SP2 also, IE 8 when mine started.

Type Recovery into the search bar

Go to Recovery Manager

and then Advanced Options

I first selected Hardware Reinstall and selected the Audio hardware from the menu provided and reinstalled and restarted.

Then I selected Software reinstall and thenthe QuickTouch software listed on the menu. Then reinstalled and restarted.

If this does not work. You can back up your system and do a full System Recovery and see if that works. Right now everything seems to have come back.

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

What a surprise, more people with the same problem!

"hp quicktouch on screen display has stopped working"

"no audio output device is installed"

I have tried all the remedy's suggested by the good people here and by the less than helpful people at HP. I have even done the big big one and done a factory restore and still not a squeak is coming from the laptop.

HP have made this page that i found:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01695430&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_UKEN

But it doesn't tell you much more than Flynmonkie does and when you get to the bottom and its still not working,HP say that you will need to get it serviced.

But surely if this is happening to other people, then it's not a stand alone fault. If this is being caused by a conflict with HP software and Vista, then HP should be under obligation to repair it free of charge. As they are the ones who bundled incompatible software and sold it to a customer.

I'm not 100% on consumer rights, but surely that's fraud?

Oh yeah - dv6710ea, 18 months old.

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Adam T, Unfortunately, you are correct. I had not had a chance to get back here but the recovery manager "fix" was just temporary! :smileysad:

I did get almost a full day out of it. Mine was purchased 12 months ago from Best Buy. Ironically, one of their sales people warned me that I should pay one of the Best Buy techs to remove the HP proprietary software for about $150. I should have. I am extremely unhappy. :smileymad:

As a tech from back in the day, I always warned people of purchasing proprietary for this very reason. Laptops though are not as easy to find at a decent price without doing so. I guess I get what I pay for?? I have had a sneaking suspicion it has been a config issue from day one, but I just cannot figure it out?

It is not just my sound but my DVDRRW/CD drive disappears too. Which renders my computer pretty much no better than texting and pictures. I kept wondering why I had seen so many posts out there of people trying to load XP over Vista. Vista should be a very solid program…every example of issues I have found simply leads to poor installation. However, Microsoft does have it’s own set of problems.

If anyone finds information please keep posting, I will do the same!

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

I have had a couple of emails from HP Tech in the last few days, full of possible remedies but as you can imagine, none of them did me any good. They are now saying i need to pay for my laptop to be serviced by an authorised HP tech firm.

Fair play to them for coming back to me so soon after my emails to them, but it still doesn't dissolve the fact they have sold me faulty equipment and now expect me to pay for it.

I have posted the edited versions of the emails in the following couple of posts, just in case there are some tips on there we haven't already covered in the thread. (Tried putting them all in one post, but it exceeds the characters allowed)
