DavorCroatia wrote:Hello Adam, no, I didn't contact any of the HP Tech - as a matter of fact, I don't even know which email to use. Can you help me with that?
Also, I try not to bitch about anyone. I mainly need help with my laptop - and I am aware that it can be a variety of things (HP, driver, MS update, something else). So, it is unwise to blame anyone (at least at this stage
).
Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has tried that safe mode>reboot fix. It seems that something gets reset (internal HW switches) doing it that way. Not sure why they won't get reset during the normal restart, but... there are many things in this world that I don't know and understand, and I've just added this one to it.

Try emailing them, its worth a go. Plus, if you want to try and claim your money back, it's good to show that you have allready tried to resolve it with the manafacturer.

That should send you to the email page with your laptop as the subject header. If it doesn't work again, let me know.
Haven't tried that Safe Mode>reboot fix yet - will try that next. Nice one!

Hello again. I've learned something new. Sound disapeared when I've tried to defragment the c drive. Interesting, right? Also, that fix: safe mode>reboot doesn't work any longer
Urgh! Have no idea why. But, I've got another temporal fix. I've purchased an external sound card (about inch and a half) that alows me to insert headphones and mic. So, I've got another workaround, but no real fix (have to use external speakers or headphones, but at least I can hear sound). I'll try that email tomorrow, it is getting late here in Croatia.

DC, I tried the reboot fix. Another Temporary fix for me?! The next time the system restarts ~pouf~! I wonder if it has something to do with what is being allowed or disallowed at startup. Not my specialty? Many times I notice that when the sound/hard drive appears.. the QuickTouch warning is missing along with the "windows" has blocked some "start up" programs? Obviously it's not a hardware issue or there wouldn't be the ability to have these temporary fixes. I think it's obvious it is a software issue but I cannot tell what is not playing nice? Something seems to be fighting for control; or in my case; preventing.
Times that it all starts working my system has a completely different “feel” to it? I checked to see if it is an administrative thing i.e.: inadvertently signing on as guest vs. admin etc…
I also tried the defrag.
Nothing thus far.

@Flynmonkie> Hello again. It is software issue, no doubt. Some windows update messed it up. And you are right, everything else points that it is a software issue. We will have to wait untill someone figures out what is switching on and off our sound card/modem (and in some cases, as I see on other forums, the cd/dvd drive as well). I'll try that tech email today and see what they have for us.

@danny_dee_82> I've disabled the quickyouch on screen thing, because it was popping up at every startup - and when it didn't, my sound would be back. I believe that our problem also has someting to do with that little gizmo, since it loads some strange drivers, too. But, uninstalling it and installing it back didn't fix my problem nor even help a little, so I've just deleted it. Everything else works fine without it. I don't use those quick lounch buttons for dvd player, I use another software, so I really don't need that. I can control sounds with the + and - buttons, and that's all I need (if I ever need those).
USB Sound card - yes, it saves the day. For y'all in the US, you can get one of those for $2-3, but I've payed $11 here in Croatia. It works like a charm, but you have to use both mic and headset. That's the only way to get sounds in and out. Otherwise, sound is great. You can attach it to the external speakers and it works.
Well see if HP comes up with some sort of a fix for our problem soon.

I am absolutely at a loss, had this problem since tuesday, don't know a solution but I wish HP would come up with one! I have had my laptop a little over a year(bought 8/15/08). I have tried all the methods suggested so far in this thread as well as those of HP ppl on chat, to no avail.
Welcome to the club gilders1. None of us have got any further with things either.
Your two options are buy a new usb soundcard and then use external speakers. (Which kind of limits the whole 'laptop portability' situation)
Or keep on at HP and ask them to escalate your situation to a claim manager. (Although i have been waiting since monday for them to contact me and they said 2-3 days....)
Failing all that, get in touch with trading standards as HP have sold you a faulty product. They decided to bundle the soft and hardware in your machine and it doesn't work. They have acknowledged there is a fault as they have set up help pages to try and fix it. But as these fixes don't do anything, it brings us back to them selling faulty products which is against the law in pretty much most of the free world.

HP is eventually going to get sued over this and thats when we'll take the chance and send back this piece of Sh!t laptops, like daviocroatia said, the're the ones that put teh software and hardware in their machines and they should take all responsibility for their actions.
