Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Okay, for some reason my computer fixed itself.  It's the oddest thing, and I doubt it will last very long.  But I was at my moms house (a house full of Macs), and I was doing something on facebook when suddenly my computer said it needed to load a driver for the fax modem.  At this point I had no sound.  I clicked okay.  It said it couldn't find the driver and I clicked something to make it go away.  Then a few minutes later the same message popped up wanting to load the driver for the fax modem.  I think I clicked remind me later or ignore, I am just not sure.  A day later I shut down my computer to go home.  When I got home and booted up my computer I had sound.  It has been working for two days now.  I'm amazed.  I am scared to shut down my computer again.  I'm sure it won't last, but something funky is going on.  Maybe the lastest fix will be our answer.

Now the sound scares me whenever a program opens.

Let me know how long this lasts.  Mine kasted for 3 days, now I don't have any sound again.  I say we all buy Apple's and screw HP and Microsoft.  They don't give a darn about customers,

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

This sound issue has to do with the registery, probably audiosrv not being recognized and HP watching this thread go to 27 pages blaming it on a hardware issue trying to rip off 400 $ from ppl.

Anyone tried to do Full format using the CD? I could not do that because my CD rom has stopped working with the sound....When my sound came back and so did the CD rom I restarted to boot from the CD and both stopped working again :smileymad:

Thank you AidanIreland for your help!

I tried almost everything you wrote.. STILL no sound!!

Its not a hardware issue as sometimes sound comes back..

I think it has to be do with some update causing conflict.. NOT SURE..

What the **** HP is doing at this moment?? They are not serious about customer service... :smileymad:

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Tack another dissatisfied HP Pavilion customer up on these QuickPlay buttons.

I'm not a techno-guru, in the least, but I do know I won't be purchasing another HP given the length of this issue. I only wish I'd known about this issue before I bought this machine.

I'd been experiencing the issue off and on while it was still running Vista, and now that we've upgraded to Win 7 the red light stays on and I receive no sound.

The device manager states there aren't any issues with drivers.

I see more and more new complaints everyday on here. This is becoming quite an epidemic. I have been fighting with HP for almost a year now with this  <text deleted>! HP is digging it's own grave very fast. I wouldn't want to own any HP stock right now.

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

Now, not only is my sound card not working, my NVIDIA wired ethernet has stopped functioning properly :smileysad:

Device is reported to be working, there are no errors, but it simply will not actually connect to my LAN.  Also, even though it is a 10/100/1000 speed card and it is connected to a gigabit switch, the status display shows it connected at 100mbs.

Any one know if this is a similiar issue to the sound card or does my HP piece of **** have an entirely new problem?

I did a full system restore to factory condition, which did not fix the problem.  I tried it from the CD.  I tried it from the hard drive.  I tried it more than once from both.

HP has not responded to two attempts to resolve the situation from my "next step."  There has been simply no response whatsoever.

Will keep you all informed.

Re: HP Quicktouch on screen display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

For those of you having problems with NVIDIA drivers, please Google the following:  NVIDIA HP Dell

This seems to be more related to the GUI, and the display drivers rather than the sound drivers.

All of it seems to be related to Vista.

HP sold me a "Vista compatible" machine which was not Vista compatible ultimately.  I now have a Sony Vaio.  I will never own an HP anything again.
