Headphones don't work sometimes and Speakers are fine.

I have a Compaq Presario Notebook C770US and the sound on my Laptop only works on certain things. The speakers work fine all the time, but when I plug my headphones into the jack the sound either doesn't work, or may sound like it's streamed, or sometimes I can hear the music and not the vocals of a song. I can only hear certain videos online. It's very irritating. I know it's not the headphones as I've tried mulitple pairs of headphones. I know the sound 'works' it just won't play on certain songs, videos, or etc. I think it has to do with the bitrate, as the only radio stations in itunes I can hear are 128kbps stations. Please help.

For your problem, there is two posibility, either it is a driver issue or a hardware issue.

But first lets troubleshoot the driver, which OS are you using?

try to uninstall the current audio driver from control panel reboot and install the new one here
