How to activate volume icon on g6 notebook pc

After installing some windows updates, the volume icon disappeared from my taskbar. I made sure that it was turned "on" in the notification settings yet it is still not active on taskbar. I changed the notification setting then changed it back to show icon and notifications, at which point a message came up saying that "the volume notification is not currently active. It wil show once it is activated." I tried rebooting - still no luck.

I can't figure out how to activate it. I went to control panel>system and devices, but found nothing that enabled me to activate the volume icon. I appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks!

Iam from Germany. You can you the FixIt from Microsoft:

Reinstall then the Audio Driver about Recovery Manager.
