Hello, sorry i was away for a few days!
Ok, tried the DPC latency checker.
This is my machine as normal

As you can see there is regular high latency.
No with the IDT Codec disabled

Perfect, no latency..... but obviously my sound is totally disabled!
I did this test over an extended period and the results stand.
Does this help us get to an answer? I am really beginning to loathe this laptop.
BTW, HP added a new codec last week (even though it says August... no improvement)
Have tried disabling other stuff like wireless devices, the issue remains.

Just found this post in the lockup and freezing category exactly the same issue as me.
Interesting read.
I might start linking all the posts with the same issue here so HP might actually take notice because there is such a mass of topics on this. According to their techincal support, there is no known issue with the IDT codec.... googling it seems suggest otherwise...

Can you answer me on one question?
Did you try to disable anything else then IDT audio card?
Ps.
There is no need to get more users to this thread because I will not speak with anyone else.
It's very hard to communicate with more then one user in topic.

No I disabled the IDT HD Codec first and on its own, obviously because my suspicions lay there and that stopped the latency. However I did still try individually disabling the network adaptors, which had no effect, as a well as the other audio devices.
Sorry, i don't mean to make your fault finding more difficult, I really do appreciate the help.
Its just HP wont acknowledge the issue. I'm on my second dv4050ea with this problem and Googling reveals this is a regular issue with HP and Dells. Annoyingly you need overwhelming evidence for a manufacturer to make this a known issue.

Wow, just booted up my pc today and got this random error

could this shed any more light on the issue? Strange that is mentions compatibility modes... However, it didn't fix the issue.

I am having the exact same problem, and I'm on the same page as you. I'm really starting to loathe this laptop. Maybe some day I can play my games with sound. That's the future of computing, no doubt.

OK, I was able to get the generic Windows High definition driver to install, however I still got the extreme latency.
After doing some research i came across this

Could changing the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller driver like this work for me? Is it safe to try?
Cheers

I am having the same problem as you! This is so frustrating since this NEW computer was so expensive. I expect minor things like these to work. I am also experiencing specifically bad lag/audio lag with Starcraft 2 as well.

Hi Jumbo, welcome to the club.
I think I've scared off the blue posters somehow, not sure why. Even so I'm going to keep this post updated because i think it's a known issue thats not acknowledged. Bump for justice.
Anyway, back on topic....
I tried changing the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller driver to the generic windows one, with interesting results. The DPC Latency check is much more well behaved in its readouts HOWEVER the symptoms remain (audio/video stuttering, high processor useage etc)... I'm back on the intel driver again now.
Interestingly enough my Laptop has blue screened a couple of times now. Its started but mass stuttering of audio for 10 seconds, the blue screen.... I didn't have time to read it, but it mentioned something about a kernal.
Also tried rolling back the ati driver to 10.4 (read somewhere that it may work), no luck. Back on 10.11.
AND, this is the best bit my retailer has send me ANOTHER 4050ea. Straight out the box... log youtube... LATENCY!!!! Updated the driver and HP assistant... MORE LATENCY. This must be evidence that the issue is not local or user based!
I will now wager my hat that 4050ea have a latency issue out the box. I'm not asking for much, HP, just the laptop to work as intended. It isn't as if I haven't tried to fix it myself.
I am inclined to try out xperf and xperfview, however it looks a little intimidating getting results from it.

Yeah man... I finally just refunded my computer since I just bought it. Peace out, HP.
